Julian Jordan Talks “Right Now,” STMPD RCRDS 10-Year Tour, and Space Plus Bangkok During Songkran During the STMPD RCRDS 10-Year Anniversary Tour stop in Bangkok, we spoke with Julian Jordan at Space Plus Bangkok, where the night also marked the club’s reopening during Songkran, placing the show within a wider moment for the local circuit. The tour itself reflects ten years of STMPD RCRDS since its launch in 2016 under Martin Garrix, with a roster that has remained visible across major festivals such as Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival while still maintaining a strong presence in clubs. Julian Jordan has been part of that lineup for years, first gaining wider attention through early collaborations like BFAM and continuing with releases such as Oldskool alongside Will Sparks, alongside a steady run of solo tracks that move between vocal releases and records aimed for club play. In conversation, he spoke about how his latest track Right Now began as an instrumental idea before the vocal was recorded months later, how his approach in the studio now follows his own listening habits as they shift over time, and how that thinking carries into his sets, where reading the crowd remains central, especially in a club setting where the response on the floor directly influences how the set develops. So the first question I want to start with is your latest track, “Right Now.” What was your creative process like when you made it and what part of the track came to you first? “It’s funny. It’s an older track that I made, I think about a year ago. The instrumental idea was already there, but I wanted to make something that sits between a vocal track and something you can play in a club. I recorded the vocal a few months ago and still had the project, so I decided to put the vocal on it and see what happens. That’s how ‘Right Now’ came together. It was basically two projects merged into one.” Over the past year, your production process has likely changed with trends and everything. What would you say changes the most when you’re working on a track? “I don’t really try to follow trends. I just follow what I like. My process doesn’t change much, but my taste in music does. When I hear something being used a lot, I feel like doing something different to keep myself challenged. As a producer, you always have to challenge yourself and make something that surprises both you and the crowd. When I’m in the studio, I think, ‘If I’m standing in the crowd right now, what would I want to hear and what would I go crazy to?’ That’s what I try to make.” Now we are here at Space Plus Bangkok for the STMPD RCRDS 10-Year Anniversary Tour. Does being here on this occasion change how you approach planning your set? “I used to be really into planning my sets, but I changed that. Big festivals are different because you’re playing for a bigger picture, but in clubs you have to read the crowd. For club shows, I don’t prepare that much. I have tracks ready, but I like to go with the flow. That’s when I have the most fun, when I can read the crowd and build a connection. That’s the art of DJing for me. If I prepare too much, I feel like it would ruin my set.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Spaceplus Bangkok Official (@spaceplus.bangkok) You’ve been part of STMPD RCRDS for a long time now. How does it feel to be here in Thailand for the anniversary tour, especially with Space Plus Bangkok reopening during Songkran? “I love it. I feel super blessed to be here. I was here a few years ago and haven’t seen the club yet after the renovation, but I’ve heard about it. I’m excited to see it and to be here again. It’s always special to be part of moments like this and to build new memories.” For Julian Jordan, this return to Space Plus Bangkok sits between familiarity and change, coming after previous shows in the city but now within a different version of the venue following its reopening. That timing also places the night within the wider context of the STMPD RCRDS 10-Year Anniversary Tour, where artists who have been part of the label over time return during a milestone year, linking individual sets to a longer timeline that goes beyond a single show. As someone who has remained closely connected to STMPD RCRDS, his presence in Bangkok reflects that ongoing role within the label, especially as it moves into its next phase after ten years. Rather than focusing only on past releases or earlier collaborations, this moment points forward, where his recent output and continued touring sit alongside a label that continues to expand its reach across both clubs and festivals. In that sense, the night at Space Plus Bangkok does not just mark a return to the city, but also positions him within what comes next for STMPD, where artists tied to its core identity continue to carry that direction into new releases and future shows.
