What is EDM?
Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is an umbrella term for a broad range of percussive electronic music genres made primarily for nightclubs, raves, and festivals. Produced using electronic instruments, synthesizers, and digital audio workstations, EDM is designed to make people dance.
The roots of EDM trace back to the late 1970s with disco and electronic experiments by artists like Giorgio Moroder and Kraftwerk. The genre truly formed in the 1980s with the birth of House in Chicago and Techno in Detroit.
Today, EDM is a global phenomenon worth billions, with festivals like Tomorrowland, Ultra, and EDC drawing hundreds of thousands of fans. From underground clubs to stadium shows, electronic dance music continues to evolve and dominate popular culture.
