If you’ve been following EDMTunes, you already know how much we admire Lane 8. And everything connected to This Never Happened. Much of that appreciation comes down to Daniel, who consistently introduces listeners to incredible talent through his label, thoughtful collaborations, and immersive mixtapes that have been spanning over a decade. One standout artist who has been making waves—especially since the release of ‘I Will Leave A Light On’ is Jyll. The collaboration between Le Youth, Lane 8, and Jyll resonated far beyond expectations, quickly gaining traction across the scene. Since then, Jyll has continued to build momentum with a series of standout releases on This Never Happened. These include ‘Lifeline’ with Robby East, ‘What You’ve Done’ with Alice DiMar and most recently ‘Stay Still a Little While’ with Lane 8. Each release showcases her distinct voice and growing presence within the EDM space. Outside of This Never Happened, Jyll has also collaborated with Pretty Pink on Colorize, further expanding her reach. Jyll’s most recent release was last week, ‘Run Away’ with TMPST and Maynørr. I had the pleasure and honour of speaking with Jill Beisheim, better known as Jyll. In our conversation, we dive into her journey, influences, and creative process. Sit back, relax, and get to know her better. Jyll is widely recognized for her emotional lyrics, haunting tone, and beautifully expressive vocals. The Interview (Please note, the bolded text represents a question, while the paragraph(s) are Jyll’s responses to them.) Congratulations on all your releases, and one that sits close to my heart is ‘Stay Still a Little While’ with Lane 8. It’s a beautiful and emotive track. What does this song mean to you personally? Thanks so much – that really means a lot to me. ‘Stay Still a Little While’ is a very personal song. I wrote it during a time when I felt quite lost in my own head. I wasnt where I wanted to be, and everything felt confusing and slightly out of place – like I was moving too fast, but at the same time not moving at all. It was the strange mix of numbness and quiet optimism. The contrasts of life we face every day. But I truly believe that when you are own your own darkness, you own your happiness too. I got pretty good at hiding how I really feel, so most people don’t notice what is going on inside. And sometimes that’s even a sense of shame that comes with those feelings – like life is such a gift, so why do I still feel so lost, drained or sad at times ? (quite regularly) I think something I struggle with is the feeling of being a burden. Even though, deep down, what I really want is for someone to just see me – to notice that I’m not okay, without trying to fix me. Because that inner work is something you have to do yourself. But having someone there, just holding space, makes a huge difference. It reminds you that you’re not alone in it. The song is really about allowing yourself to pause. To stay still for a moment. To face the darker parts of yourself, to do the shadow work, instead of running from them – because I believe only through that can you gain the calrity again, rebuild your vision, and reconnect with yourself. How did ‘Stay Still a Little While’ first come together? Can you walk us through the creative process between you and Daniel. How the song evolved from idea to final version? I really love how this song came to life. I remember Daniel sent me this little piano snippet — it wasn’t even in time, you could hear background noise from his home, his kids playing… it was a bit messy. But what really stood out in that one-minute memo was the emotion. It was all there. I recorded my first version almost in one take, very intuitively. And I think a big part of that original take actually made it into the final version — the one you all know now. I do remember being really nervous sending it back to him. After ‘I Will Leave A Light On,’ I had put quite a lot of pressure on myself to create something just as good… or even better. But Daniel really helped me shift that mindset. He reminded me that every song has its own beauty and doesn’t need to be compared. His response was actually really simple — he just said he loved it, and something like, “Woah… those emotions.” Haha. And that was exactly what I needed in that moment. It took so much pressure off me. After that, he started doing his magic. I think we went through… I don’t even know, maybe version 37? haha. He’s such a visionary — very detail-oriented and I kinda guess also perfectionistic, but at the same time so playful and always evolving and redefining his sound. Thats really inspiring. And I think that’s what makes working with him so special. I feel a real creative connection between us. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jyll (@thisis.jyll) Let’s get to know you better.
