We’ve got good news: Orsay and Kotiēr have joined forces for ‘1886‘, a studio collaboration that took shape between Paris and Ibiza, marking another strong release on BLOND:ISH’s respected Abracadabra imprint. And what’s more, the track came together organically. “‘1886’ with Orsay began as a friendship“, says Kotiēr. “We met in Paris last May, and one afternoon I walked into his flat when he was playing with some unusual synth sounds. Something about it immediately captivated me. I sat down next to him at his laptop and we started throwing ideas around, gradually filling out the track together (…). We are thrilled it found a home on Abracadabra.“ ‘1886’ With the characteristic Afro House beat with a ton of oomph and some of the warmest sub basses out there, ‘1886’ starts off strong — and only builds on that throughout its duration. Offbeat plucks, analogue leads, and tons of tension, are accompanied by quite the vocal, taking us back in time a couple decades. All in all, the track is a very solid contender for Afro tune of the year, given the way that it nails building on simplicity with just the right changes, textures, and playful games.
