Mozambo & Antdot Rework Angie Stone Classic ‘Wish I Didn’t Miss You’

Proper House territory on today’s hot release. Mozambo and Antdot have teamed up to revisit Angie Stone’s modern soul classic with ‘Wish I Didn’t Miss You‘, offering an incredible club interpretation that maintains the emotional core while adapting it for late-night dancefloors. The track lands on April 17th as a joint release between Dawn Patrol and Mozambo’s own Jungle Disco imprint. Rewriting and flipping a classic with grace isn’t an easy task. Angie Stone’s original ‘Wish I Didn’t Miss You’ remains one of the defining soul releases of the early 2000s. “This remix is very special to us because the original has been part of our lives for years. Two years ago in Ibiza we rediscovered it while digging and we had this idea: we wanted to play it in our sets, but to reinterpret it with our own sound“, Mozambo explains. ‘Wish I Didn’t Miss You’ But the connection to Ibiza runs deeper than just rediscovering the track. Mozambo continues explaining: “For us it’s also connected to the legacy of Ibiza, especially that iconic Carl Cox moment at the Space closing in 2016. We’ve watched that video so many times, it always gave us goosebumps. We were scared to touch it because it’s such a masterpiece, but one day we started the project and everything flowed naturally“. And that’s how a modern tune with an old school soul is born. Containing warmth, crispy basslines, and a very respectful tackle to the original, the rework leans into Afro and Deep House without overwhelming nor compromising the vocal centrepiece. The approach focuses on preservation rather than reinvention — a rare occurance these days — and that only helps drive the recpectfulness point forward even more.
