Balance Music returns to North America this March with a special Miami gathering during Winter Music Conference and Miami Music Week, marking the first stop in its new Road to Balance Croatia event series. The event is at 1-800 Lucky and brings together a lineup that reflects the label’s long-standing melodic house and progressive ethos. Guy J will lead the bill with his signature extended storytelling sets, while Guy Mantzur (@guymantzur) joins him with the melodic depth and precision that have defined his productions and performances for years. Argentine artist Ezequiel Arias, Niki Sadeki, and rising name Lucas Zárate complete a lineup designed for the long-form dancefloor experience Balance has championed for decades. Snag Tickets Here In this conversation, Mantzur reflects on the values that still matter behind the decks even as the DJ landscape continues to evolve. He speaks about loyalty to the audience, the importance of staying true to your own instincts rather than chasing trends, and the mindset shift that helped him transform pre-show stress into excitement. As Balance prepares to reconnect with North American crowds after more than five years away, his perspective offers a reminder that the fundamentals of DJ culture still revolve around authenticity, patience, and connection with the dancefloor. Guy Mantzur Interview What’s one thing people used to say was essential for DJs that you’ve found doesn’t really matter? After all each and every one of us is a different human being, so what works for one DJ might not work for another. People have many opinions and thoughts about how things should be. For example there are people who want to see the DJ always posting on social media, or not using a computer, or playing only unreleased tracks. But there are DJs who do exactly the opposite and still play really good sets, super professional, and they are very successful. For me when something works good and makes me feel good and play good, I take it with both hands and stay loyal to myself. On the flip side, what’s one thing that’s still essential, even if no one’s talking about it right now? Stay loyal to yourself and to your audience, especially to those who follow you for a long time and helped make you what you are today. Don’t follow trends cause they have a limited lifetime. Follow your heart and never stop getting excited before each gig. Do you think there’s such a thing as paying dues anymore, or has that idea shifted? I believe in hard work, consistency, and developing your sound signature. For me that’s the main goal and will always be. What tools, traits, or habits matter less now that the landscape has changed? Many things changed for good and for bad. Today, it’s very easy to let people listen to your creations and ideas through all media channels, which is great. It’s also easier to connect with people and create beautiful collaborations and friendships. And it’s easier to produce music because there are so many tools that help you do that. I even heard some AI productions lately that really made me think about where we go from here. But as an artist I carry an inner child with special emotions and I believe those small human moments of creativity and even those unexpected mistakes that turn into gold, those things can never be replaced. And that’s the beauty of humanity. Can you name a value or principle that still feels timeless, no matter how fast the scene evolves? If your song or melody sounds good even just on a piano with no other instruments, that’s a sign it’s very good. Have you had to unlearn anything from earlier in your DJ life that no longer applies? I replaced stress with excitement. I used to be really stressed before shows, and I found it affected my joy. But I learned how to lower the stress level and turn it into excitement, which makes me enjoy the performance even more. If you want, I can do a full interview only about this What do you think newcomers should prioritize if they want to last in the industry? Follow your heart not trends. Use social media, don’t let it use you. Always remember why you are doing what you are doing and stay loyal to yourself and your crowd. If you make mistakes and fall even 100 times, keep trying cos maybe the next time will be your golden goal. Don’t forget to smile, be patient and help people along the way cos sometimes you might need their help too.
