There is something special about the open sea that brings out a different side of artists. We caught up with SCRIPT on board the massive Wonder of the Seas for Groove Cruise 26. While many fans have followed his journey through various projects, this voyage marked a series of firsts for the producer: his first cruise ship experience and his first festival at sea. In this interview, we discuss his transition from the “grand scale” of melodic techno back to the “feel-good” roots of house music. We also touch on his return to the mindset of simply having fun, reminiscent of the industry’s “Golden Era,” and what fans can expect from his new era of sound. Check out the full interview below. EDMTunes: What’s up, guys! This is Scott with EDMTunes. I am here on The Wonder of the Seas for Groove Cruise 26 with Script for his first time ever on Groove Cruise. How does it feel? SCRIPT: Yeah, it’s good. I’ve never been on a cruise ship, so it’s like the first of everything: first cruise ship, first Festival on a cruise ship. Oh wow, so it’s been good. It’s gonna be a lot of fun. EDMTunes: Yeah, what did you come in expecting? Because everybody, before they do a cruise, they kind of have a preconceived notion, right? SCRIPT: I don’t really know. I kind of left it all open. Like, just enjoy. I usually don’t have much fun, like, when I’m at a Festival—I don’t know. I’m all in my head about the show. So I told myself, come have a good time, hang out with friends, and enjoy it!. EDMTunes: Awesome! So, talking about your music career, I’ve been following you since the beginning. When you first started out, you had a different name, a different sound. Can you talk a little bit about that evolution and how you went from that to where you are today? SCRIPT: Yes, there’s been a couple… I’ve been producing for 15 years now. Had a bunch of different projects. My first project was Atlas and I made like bass music. In fact, I played a Groove Cruise livestream during the COVID shutdown. Then I switched over to Kill Script which was more like, kind of peak-time Techno. EDMTunes: It was like i_o. SCRIPT: Yeah, he’s one of my like, forever… One of my GOATs. And then, yeah, then switching in 2024 to Script, and it’s been a wild ride since then. EDMTunes: So, you kind of got your break as Script with the Afterlife people, Anyma. How has it been working with that team and how have they helped you evolve with sound? SCRIPT: It’s crazy because they’re like full team of support. When you sign a track with Afterlife it’s not just signing a song for a lbel, you’re on a roster for events and festivals. I went from playing no shows to opening for Tale of Us in Mykonos, and then going to Ibiza and all over the world, and it was constant. So it was like so much more than designing the song, and they took such good care of me, and I still work with them, not on the agency side of things, but on the music side of things with Anyma, and I’m also working with him on his music. And yeah, it’s been pretty exciting. Scott: So, tell us about what you have planned for Groove Cruise. What sets are you playing? What kind of music should we expect? SCRIPT: Well, I’m kind of like in a new era of Script, kind of switching more to the House gear, but I always have that techno vibe. Um, and so I’m playing it here in the Solarium tonight actually, in the morning. 6 a.m. to 7:30 which will be a good sunrise House music set right after Cassian. He’s going to give you enough Afterlife so I’m gonna take it into the sunrise. And I’m also playing the Royal Theater. So, yeah, it’s gonna be a very, very busy weekend. But it’s gonna be fun. EDMTunes: And do you have any plans when we’re in Nassau? SCRIPT: Probably should have done some more research. I have no idea what to expect. I’m just like, I’m gonna enjoy it, and let’s see what happens. EDMTunes: Pro tip is swimming with the pigs. If you can find one of those excursions… they have these beaches with Crystal Clear, Blue Water, beautiful sand. And there’s these little pigs that live on the islands. They run through the water, swim, you feed them. SCRIPT: Oh yeah, something you kind of don’t do anywhere else. EDMTunes: Okay, so yeah, it’s kind of interesting because you’re at the forefront of the melodic techno scene and how the sound has changed as Afterlife has been evolving so where do you see that sound going? SCRIPT: I think, I mean, right now, everyone’s kind of switching into Tech House. Even Anyma, all the crew is kind of trying to figure out where this next sound is going to be. I personally believe that the scale of melodic was like this bigger world, like it’s bigger than life. That’s why, when Anyma did his visuals, it just worked and people just loved it. Personally I think the next thing is going back to something like 2007-2009 feel-good music. For example, I just made an edit of David Guetta and Kid Cudi’s “Memories,” and I’m gonna play it here. We’re just getting back to that feeling. The last couple of
