German producer DENIAL is making waves in the underground with his latest single ‘RAILS‘, a raw techno weapon that dropped March 13 on Ex Communicado. The track showcases the perfect collision between classical training and warehouse grit that defines Daniel Weinand’s unique artistic vision. ‘RAILS’ doesn’t mess around. Built on heavy distortion, acid textures, and stripped-back spoken vocals, the track feels equally at home in Berlin’s darkest basements and underground punk venues. Working with collaborator Sean Bravo, the track found its voice quickly when both artists agreed it needed something appropriately filthy to match the heavy distortions. “When I spoke with Sean Bravo, we agreed the track needed something filthy to match the heavy distortions,” Weinand explains. “‘Underworld’ was an obvious reference point. Sean wrote the lyrics in one go and recorded everything in the first session. It was important to keep it raw.” Weinand’s journey to electronic music wasn’t exactly conventional. Starting as a classically trained pianist with dreams of film composition, he faced rejection from Berlin’s prestigious Hochschule der Künste after an intensive entrance process. Rather than abandon music entirely, he pivoted to computer science while keeping composition close to his heart. That classical foundation shows up in unexpected ways throughout DENIAL’s work. Even as he’s moved into darker electronic territory drawing from techno, acid, industrial, and metal influences, there’s still a strong instinct for melody and unusual harmonies that sets his productions apart from the pack.
