Thanks for having me. Hot Take #1: Two sentences with a strong opinion or perspective on the genre or the industry. I think genres are stupid. Everything has such an umbrella term now, so when people ask me what I play I just say House. To start, what was the primary spark or idea that led to the creation of “Say The Word”? I had found the “Say The Word” sample and thought it would be a very cool pre-drop vocal. The entire song stemmed from that idea. Hot Take #2: Two sentences with a production – focused opinion or observation. Everyone focuses on perfecting each and every record. You learn more by putting out a record than you do from making 10. Can you walk us through the process of recording and producing “Say The Word”? This record came together very naturally! When I found the vocal sample, I immediately started making the drums that would come after it. When I found the other vocal sample in the track, it flowed very nicely with the pre-drop vocal! Overall, all the pieces fit where they needed to, and when that happens it’s honestly so much fun. How long did “Say The Word” take to put together? It actually took a bit longer than some of my other records because there was a previous version that never saw the light of day. It had the same structure, but I revamped the drums to make it fit better in my sets. Hot Take #3: Two sentences with a take on what artists should pay attention to right now. We need to stop treating AI like it’s evil in the creation process. I’m sure when DAWs and Splice came around, people got upset at those too. How do you maintain a connection with the audience that goes deeper than the surface? I love interacting with my audience and having genuine conversations with people. I’m very active on social media and reply to DMs and comments frequently. Recently I got recognized at an after party in LA and gave him some advice on how to start making music. Finally, what is the next step in your “evolving journey” and how are you feeling after this release? I have so much music I want to share and the frequency of everything will increase. I’m jumping into the world of record labels since all of my releases have been independent. I’m feeling very excited for the future and all the music that will be showcased soon! Hot Take #4: Two sentences with a hot take related to creativity or gear. I think having less is more. By limiting yourself to only a few tools, the process becomes more streamlined. Hot Take #5: Two sentences with a bold opinion on trends in the scene. The DJ market is so overly saturated. We need more selector DJs and less DJs that act like playlists.
