Origins & History
Tech House emerged in the mid-1990s from the UK and German club scenes as DJs and producers sought to bridge the gap between house music's groovy, soulful elements and techno's darker, more mechanical approach.
The term "tech house" was coined by Mr. C (Richard West) of The Shamen. London clubs like fabric and promoters like Wiggle became hotbeds for this new sound, while German producers contributed their precision and minimalism.
By the 2010s, tech house had evolved from underground origins to dominate festival main stages. Labels like Hot Creations, Dirtybird, and Toolroom helped define the modern sound, while Ibiza's DC10 and Amnesiabecame temples for the genre.
