What is Tales from the Wild: Fireside Storytelling?

An intimate fireside storytelling event from author and storyteller Chris Salisbury, who will share some traditional narratives from the natural world, and from his books such as Folk Tales of the Night. There will be shape-shifting, enchantment and mystery wrapped in a bundle of stories, songs and ballads to bring us into kinship with the wild and the darkness. As you descend into the space, you’re invited to close your eyes and listen deeply to the old stories carried by the land. These are stories that reveal the quiet magic of everyday life, if we slow down enough to hear them, and in doing so, open pathways to listening more closely to the layered stories within ourselves. Chris Salisbury is a storyteller, author, outdoor educator, and founder of WildWise, established in 1999 after many years as an education officer with Devon Wildlife Trust. He is a course facilitator at Schumacher College, where he also directs the Call of the Wild Foundation programme, and is the founder and Artistic Director of the Westcountry Storytelling Festival. With roots in theatre, training in therapy, and a lifelong career in environmental education, his work weaves story, ritual, and embodied experience to help people reconnect with the natural world and their own inner lives. His work speaks directly to the loss of ritual, imagination, and wildness in modern life, and to the power of oral storytelling and time in nature to restore curiosity, creativity, and a sense of belonging, for children and adults alike.
