What is Soundcheck?

Soundcheck returns for its second edition exploring selectors whose DJ journeys have followed distinct pathways in their musical explorations. Tracing movement across cities and generations, from Minneapolis and Detroit to Texas and Brooklyn, by way of Somalia, Lebanon, and Syria, the night maps how sound travels, unravels, and reconnects us. These routes converge on the dance floor through genre-blending selections spanning house, techno, breakbeat, electro, and diasporic influences, unfolding as a shared exploration rather than a fixed destination. Curated by Brooklyn-by-way-of-Metro-Detroit’s ALI IRL, and supported by multi-disciplinary DJs Yasmeenah and L1NH, Soundcheck is a transmission built for heads, dancers, and curious bodies alike. YASMEENAH / @yasmeenahxo: With roots in the Midwest but ears tuned to a global frequency, Yasmeenah brings a dynamic combination of deep soulful grooves and African Polyrhythms. She reps Minneapolis as the founder of @unb0theredddd, a party focused on underground Black music as well as @blueprint.313, a Detroit based crew and label. She is currently based in Brooklyn. L1NH / @__l1n_h__: Producer and selector, L1NH, who will close the evening for the late-night club mavens, draws inspiration from the resilience of her Syrian roots and the grit of her Texas upbringing. Expect a fluid and sub-fueled journey echoing the musical likings of her family and peers, from Chaabi and Latin Club to experimental bass. ALI IRL / @ali___irl: Curator of Soundcheck, Ali is a Brooklyn-based DJ by way of metro-Detroit. While no genre is off-limits, his sets lean heavily into ‘80s textures, electro, and variations of house and techno woven together through long-form blends. With a soft spot for the intimate dance-floor, he’s carved out a space in nightlife with a distinctly DIY state of mind, made possible by the support of local selectors and devoted dancers alike at spaces including Bossa Nova Civic Club, Good Room, Jupiter Disco, Elsewhere, Marble Bar.
