The Heart Rests Twice concert series, part of the Sonic Acts Biennial 2026, continues with its fifth installment in Amsterdam. This edition examines themes related to sound, code, and archival fragments, investigating the concept of intelligence and its impact on daily life. Hannah Hajar is an electronic duo that incorporates influences from mystical dub, ambient, bass, and musique concrète, performing in Amharic, the official language of Ethiopia. Their music combines rhythmic and contemplative elements, creating soundscapes that blend accordion with synthetic textures and deconstructed rhythms. Nour Sokhon, a Lebanese artist, leads the project Beirut Birds (طيور بيروت), which integrates interviews, field recordings, and various instruments to explore themes of migration and displacement. The project aims to create soundscapes that capture personal and collective narratives of those who have left and those who remain. Guitarist Nina Garcia and trombonist Maria Bertel collaborate to push the boundaries of their instruments. Their work focuses on intense improvisations characterized by feedback, drones, and random harmonies, challenging conventional perceptions of sound.
