What is [dweller] The Nile: A Guy Called Gerald + Nkisi / CARISTA + Spurge / Shawn Dub?

Dweller Electronics, as a festival, occurs annually in the last week of February as a culmination event with respect to Black History Month. This Friday and Saturday, they take over all three rooms of 233 with a formidable lineup spanning genres. A name synonymous with the invention of acid house, jungle, drum ‘n’ bass, and British electronic music as it is today, A Guy Called Gerald’s track record spans over 20 years of releases and collaborations, including projects with Frankie Knuckles, Goldie, Herbie Hancock, David Bowie, Tricky, Roman Fluegel, and The Orb. Now, with live sets regularly flowing anywhere from two to 14 hours, he maintains his top-lauded reputation with effortless cool. Born in the Congo, Melika Ngombe Kolongo began using the moniker Nkisi after moving to London in 2012. Her intense, powerful club tracks are equally influenced by African polyrhythms as they are hardcore techno, where gabber kicks and metallic percussions lie relentlessly experimental. In The Atrium, two artists living on opposite continents but whose labels showcase the weirder sides of electronic music. CARISTA [United Identities] imbues jacking house and techno with electro, hyperpop, hard-hitting percussion, and rave-jazz flourishes. Spurge runs Eto Ano. His musical knowledge is bolstered by a decade in the New York nightlife community, where a chameleonic approach to dance has seen him jump from dancehall to techno to rock and anywhere beyond. Human Head honcho and PR resident Shawn Dub takes a seat UPSTAIRS, where the dynamism is just as far-reaching. - Public Records aims to provide a safer space.
